"I have just finished reading about Lucy and ... wow. Can I just say how talented you are at painting a picture of someone's story? I am a very visual person and you managed to narrate a beautiful movie that played inside my head as I read the book. It captured me and I felt as though I were in it...as though I could have been Lucy. And I had a nosy at the images you published on your website and it correlates with what I had in mind.
I know it to be a good read when I feel as though I am still living the story as I step back into reality. I am actually at work at the moment but I want to be at the huts. I want to know more and see it as it is now and perhaps step back in time just as you have told it.
I love how you write and I am thankful to have been blessed with such good reads! You successfully captured my attention and held it there. I will read Antarctic Engineer next. If it is anything like your other two books (Yenohan's Legacy is awesome!) I am excited and looking forward to immersing myself in another reality."
Warmest regards,
Awhina Shortcliffe
"I enjoyed your book very much.
My first reaction after wiping tears from my eyes was to think what a wonderful film this story would make. I straight away thought that Judy Davis could play Ma and Sarah Snook, the young Lucy (say from 20 to 35 especially through her art years).
You certainly captured the emotions of the two women. You cannot help but feel for Lucy and so sad that she had a bitter relationship with her mother - even in later years when maturity and self evaluation often seek reconciliation.
I especially enjoyed your success in capturing the effort that others acquainted with Lucy tried to invite her into the “modern” world to a certain degree, by her acceptance (reluctantly) of Lyn Darby from the Swifts Creek store and her efforts to comfort Lucy– so compassionate and understanding.
I won’t go on; but reiterate that my enjoyment of the book was profound. I don’t say that lightly as knowing the author, but as an unbiased reader of a good story based on true events. That makes it more outstanding. A great movie awaits."

"Just finished Being Lucy. What a fantastic book. You are a marvellous writer. Excellent research and a gripping storyline. I don't often find a book I want to finish.
It's a winner. Love to see it at the movies."
